How to Clean?
To clean your latex clothing effectively, fill a sink or bath with lukewarm water and avoid using soap. Turn the garment inside out, gently swish it in the water, then hang it on a plastic hanger to dry. Make sure to let it dry completely, inside and out. Once dry, apply unscented baby powder to the inside of the garment for storage, and polish the outside with a good latex preservative.
Note that latex is sensitive to liquids other than water. Harsh soaps and chlorine should be avoided as they can damage the material over time. Any contact with bleach or harsh chemicals should be prevented, as it can weaken the latex.
What Lubes & Powders Should I Use?
We recommend Vivishine Dress as the best option for slipping into your tightest latex garments. It helps coat your skin before you slip into your latex outfit. If you are using powder, apply it generously on the inside of the garment before putting it on and shake off the excess powder. Be cautious when pulling the garment on, especially along the seams.
If you prefer using baby powder, it works well for easier dressing, just ensure it is distributed evenly and not clumpy.
How to Make It Shine?
Shining latex takes time. The first time you polish your garment, it will shine quickly, but the shine will fade after each wear. The latex absorbs the polish over time, and the more you wear and clean it, the longer it will retain its shine. Polishing is not just about rubbing; it requires a gentle touch, patience, and practice.
Shine is subjective. Some people like a matte look, while others prefer a glossy shine, depending on their personal preference and the occasion. If you like a high-gloss finish, there are special products designed to achieve this shine.
Shining Products: We recommend using products such as Vivishine, which are designed for latex and will enhance the garment’s shine. Be cautious not to use car wax or other cheap alternatives, as they may not be safe for long contact with the skin and can be harmful if ingested.
Any Precautions?
Avoid sharp objects like jewelry or nails, cigarettes, or anything that might snag the latex. Be mindful not to stretch the latex too much. Copper can stain latex and once it happens, it is very hard to remove.
Do not use oils or latex together as oils will break down the latex. If you plan on wearing something slippery, ensure it’s water-based.
How to Prevent Tears & How to Repair?
If a seam splits, we recommend sending the garment back to us for repair. You can also attempt to repair it yourself with a patch kit. The repair may not look great, but you will still have your garment. Tears are not a result of manufacturing defects and are not covered under warranty. However, if a seam splits in any garment, we will repair it under warranty.
How to Store?
Some suggest storing latex in a bag with baby powder and in a dark, dry place, or in a climate-controlled closet specifically for latex. If you’re not wearing the garments, store them away from the sun. Avoid hanging latex garments on metal hangers or using straps that may stretch them out of shape. The best method is to hang them on wide hangers, which will help to distribute the weight evenly across the garment.
Most importantly, keep your latex garments far away from moisture and metals!
